Two Houses
The design of these two houses nominally in the Highlands is aimed at the upper end of the market. They are a “long house” and a “tower house.” The brief for both houses is roughly the same; 5 bedrooms, substantial living space and an overall floor area of 300-350 sqm They are both designed to be south facing on a sloping site and to obtain as much power as possible from PV panels.

The long house is two storeys and apart from the master bedroom, the other bedrooms are at the lower level and the entrance, kitchen, dining, family room, study etc. are at first floor level. The living room is double height. There are roof terraces at either end. The south elevation is substantially glazed.

The tower house is located on a nominally steeper slope and is four floors and seven levels and is organised a round “half-levels”. Entrance is at the centre of the section is via a short bridge. The kitchen/dining space sits half a level above the main living space which has views to south, east and west. Master bedroom is at the very top and the remining bedrooms at the lowest two levels. There is also a garage.
