Office Photo

Richard Murphy Architects runs an 'open office'. All major strategic decisions are taken after a monthly consultative office meeting involving everyone in the practice. The office runs a group personal pension and when we win a major project we like to go on a trip - to Barcelona in 1996, Paris in 1998, Dublin in 2002, Verona in 2004, Eichstatt/Munich in 2005, Budapest in 2006 and Madrid in 2007.

Current Vacancies - Updated January 2009

Currently the office is not looking for any new staff although we are always interested to meet new students and architects who might want to work with us in the future as workload has a habit of varying unpredictably. If you are interested in working here please send a CV and, if possible, some examples of work to Matt Bremner at mb@richardmurphyarchitects.com

The office is sited on Old Fishmarket Close in the centre of Edinburgh's Old Town.

The Breakfast Mission

Richard Murphy Architects is located in the top two floors of a four storey converted 1880 Church of Scotland Mission Hall. This is situated close to Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile and is book-ended by two of our own housing projects.

The building is owned by Richard Murphy and was redesigned to act as a “working community”. On the first floor are two self contained office spaces capable of being combined into one, currently partially occupied by “Create Engineering”. On the ground floor, is a model-making workshop occupied by “We Can Create” (no relation), garage, bicycle store, showers etc.

All the organisations in the building enter via the main door (on the second floor) and the reception for Richard Murphy Architects is everyone’s reception. The building is networked to allow everyone to use our printing facilities. Previous occupants of the first floor space have included Anthony Hunt Engineers, Fulcrum Consulting and Whitby Bird, all of whom benefited from their association with ourselves. Our two embassy projects, two buildings for the University of East London, our major mixed development in Aberdeen and housing in Glasgow have all involved collaborative working with our colleagues downstairs.

Currently, between 75 and 125 square metres of office space is available. Rental is very competitive and negotiable on a three year lease agreement with a monthly service charge which includes rates, gas, electricity and office cleaning.

If you are interested in viewing the space available, please contact our Administrator, Kathy Jowett on 0131 220 6125 or kj@richardmurphyarchitects.com.

'Create Engineering'

Create Engineering is a firm of consulting Civil and Structural Engineers with Paul Jenkins as Principal/Director.

Working with a variety of Architects and designers all over Scotland we find the central location of the office ideal in being close to many of the companies we serve. Bus and train links are also very easy for staff and clients alike. The Breakfast Mission is also a very positive and creative building in which to work particularly in our commissions with Richard Murphy Architects.
